Mining Extension Program (Renascor Resources)

From September 2022 to May 2023, Tier 1 Drilling was contracted by Renascor Resources to carry out a vital exploration drilling program aimed at extending the life of a graphite deposit near Arno Bay, a coastal region in South Australia. The project played a critical role in determining the potential for further graphite extraction, vital to the client’s long-term mining strategy.
The project involved drilling 400-meter deep holes, with a total metrage of 8,000 meters. The drilling angles ranged between 50 to 70 degrees, designed to gather comprehensive subsurface data over a broad area. Graphite exploration presents unique challenges, as the material itself acts as a lubricant, impacting drilling conditions. In response, the Tier 1 Drilling team adapted by utilising specialised bits to manage the effects of graphite lubrication, ensuring consistent performance and reliable data collection.

Tier 1 Drilling utilised their extensive fleet, deploying a track-mounted Sandvik DE712 rig for the drilling operation. Supporting this was a 10CR rod carrier and a 4WD 10,000L water truck, which was essential in maintaining the water supply for the remote drilling site. The combination of this specialised equipment and Tier 1’s adaptable approach ensured that the project met the client’s expectations for both quality and efficiency.
Located near Arno Bay, the project benefited from beautiful coastal surroundings, but the remote location also posed logistical challenges. Nevertheless, Tier 1 Drilling’s experienced team effectively managed these difficulties, ensuring the program was completed safely and on time.

The graphite extension drilling was a crucial part of Renascor Resources’ plan to extend the life of the mine, contributing to their long-term operational goals. Tier 1 Drilling’s capacity to adapt to challenging conditions, such as graphite’s lubricating properties, was key to the project’s success.
