Geotechnical Diamond Drilling (Cobalt Blue)

Tier 1 Drilling was engaged by Cobalt Blue Holdings to conduct a comprehensive geotechnical investigation aimed at exploring cobalt deposits in the Broken Hill region of New South Wales. This project, which took place over the course of 2022 and 2023, required advanced drilling techniques and expertise due to the challenging terrain and access limitations of the site.

The drilling programme involved PQ core drilling from the surface to 120 metres, after which the holes were cased off to ensure stability. Following this, the team proceeded to drill down to 300 metres using HQ coring. This combination of PQ and HQ core drilling enabled the collection of high-quality samples, crucial for assessing the site’s cobalt potential.

The project presented significant logistical and operational challenges due to the rough terrain and difficult access. However, Tier 1 Drilling’s experienced team was well-prepared for these conditions, using track support and specially equipped trucks to navigate the remote site. Their ability to mobilise and operate in such tough conditions demonstrated Tier 1’s adaptability and commitment to overcoming environmental challenges to deliver results.

Throughout the project, Tier 1 Drilling adhered to strict safety protocols, ensuring compliance with both client and regulatory requirements. The team’s attention to detail in data collection and sample integrity allowed Cobalt Blue to obtain the reliable data they needed to evaluate the site’s potential for future cobalt extraction.
